Let's Do Stuff in 2012

I'm really excited about 2012, I can't really pinpoint why, but I feel like I've turned a corner and some great stuff is going to happen this year. The future may not be full of miracles, but I feel like this new perspective on life I'm assembling will make it seem like miracles are entirely possible.
So, let's get down to it, shall we? Here are some things I wanna get done this year.

2012 To Do List
Pay off our car
Participate in Thing-a-Day 2012 (But with a THEME this year, if possible.)
Put together a time capsule
Release Some Flying Lanterns
Leave a 100% Tip
Take a family picture in a Photo Booth
Leave a present for a stranger
Stick to a $25-a-month crafting budget
Get rid of 100 things
Majorly improve at least 1 thing on our house
Do something for myself at least once a week
Read 12 Books
Work with Resin
Throw a birthday party for my kids
Spend an entire day at the lake or river
Go hiking at least twice a month during the summer with our family
Pay off at least one of our credit cards
Finish my log cabin quilt
Save up for something fun
See at least 2 movies in the theater
Have a minimum of 1 date night per month
Organize a clothing swap
See "The Hunger Games" premiere in costume
Lose 10 pounds
Do something I've never done before
Dance
Make a diorama
Make a loaf of bread by hand
Make a gingerbread house from scratch
Re-Instate Documentary Night
Exercise twice a week
Start new traditions
Build something with wood
Send a care package
Go on a picnic

I'm still trying to come up with that theme for Thing-a-day. Mini quilt blocks? Dioramas? Embroidery? Something simple but not monotonous as I have to keep it up for 29 straight days this year. (The intro to Thing-a-Day is coming.)

I also plan to blog more at Mama Compton this year. I have been on an interesting spiritual journey over the last year and I'm looking into 2012 with hope and bravery. I'm planning on being unapologettically me and encouraging others to do the same.

As a mama and a human in general, I'm going to be kinder to myself. Last year I vowed to take fear off the throne of my life, this year, I'd like to do the same to guilt. I read this post recently on motherhood, and let me tell you, if you're a mama or a papa, you need to go read it. Like, right now. I want to stop beating myself up for not appreciating my blessings enough and just appreciate them when I feel appreciation for them, and then carry the remembrance of appreciation with me when I'm going through something hard.

Be blessed.

  1. I can help with one of these, we have received a copy of the documentary we help fund and Cole was a videographer on. It's about a year in the life of show choir.
